History of The Center at Kahuna Falls
For over 200 years the Hamakua Coast was home to the sugar industry. As the industry failed, due to a combination of factors, the sugar company's land was sold in 40 acre parcels. The first private owners created a Macedamia Tree Farm. Today there are a variety of fruit trees and rare plants to enjoy.
History of Kahuna Falls
Kahuna Falls is located just north of Akaka Falls along the Hamakua Coast outside Hilo.
Some believe Kahuna Falls was created by the mistress of the God Akaka after he fell to his death creating nearby Akaka Falls. Legend teaches Akaka Falls was created when the God Akaka fell 442' to his death as he ran from his angry wife. She came home early and discovered him with another woman. If these stories are true, Akaka Falls holds masculine energy and Kahuna Falls holds feminine energy. Visitors to the falls can make their own judgment about the magic of each location.
